AMINE SWEETENING PROCESS (42 pages and 9 photographs, drawings, and illustrations) This training manual describes the principles of natural gas sweetening (sour gas removal) with an amine type chemical solution. It provides generic procedures for operating the treating plant. This manual should be used with manuals P-11, CONTACTORS, and P-12, STRIPPERS, which are the major components in a natural gas treating plant. Both Metric and English units of measurement are used so students can work in units with which they are familiar.

Covered Subjects:

  • The process flow in a gas sweetening (sour gas removal) plant
  • Types of amines in gas treating: MDEA, MEA, DEA, DGA, and Sulfinol and their appropriate applications
  • Principles of H2S and CO2 removal by an amine solution
  • Effects on the acid gas removal of temperature, pressure, amine purity and gas flow rate
  • Process of stripping acid gas from the foul (rich) solution
  • Methods of corrosion measurement and control
  • Procedures for start-up, shutdown and for operating at the most effective and efficient conditions
  • Procedures for troubleshooting foaming, high acid gas in treated gas, and high reboiler heat input

Questions and problems are included throughout the text with answers in the back that allow students to check their understanding of the subject.

P-10 Amine Sweetening Process - Instructor Kit

The P-10 Instructor Kit, in addition to the P-10 training manual, includes a CD disc that has all of the photographs, diagrams, illustrations and examples printed in the training manual. Answers to all the test questions in the manual are included.

With a few hours of familiarization with the material a knowledgeable supervisor or other individual with group speaking skills may act as the classroom instructor. Using the Instructor Kit CD the training material can be displayed on a computer connected monitor or screen with a video projector.
